Description

As data (structured, semi-structured, unstructured) grows 10x every 2-3 years, there is more data than people think. And having more data, there are more ways to analyze data than ever before. Thus, big data needs to be better data which makes Data Governance critical from being just an “Optional” to Mandatory.

 

Data Governance is a core component of an overall data management strategy and like security, should also be considered as a “day 0 activity”. Like any other governance, Data Governance is also required to regulate practices and processes- specifically around data ingestion, storage, access and usage until data retention and archiving and deletion-lifecycle of data.

 

The objective of this course is the provide the students an understanding and

appreciation of the following:

a. Fundamentals of Data Governance and why does it matter?

b. Critical functions and challenges in implementing Data Governance

c. Who’s responsible for Data Governance?

d. Creating a Data Governance framework and its operating model

e. Data Lifecycle Management

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, it is expected that the participants should be able to have a full grasp of how the “lifecycle of data” is managed and governed effectively and efficiently in enabling the organization to organize, enable/democratize its data consumption to drive activities in an acceptable manner in order to make informed decisions, create value, resolve conflicts and manage risks, among others.

Description

While we understand the value and fundamental components needed for a robust Data Governance program in solving usual data related problems, this module will provide an in-depth discussions on how to go beyond that while making sure those “usual” data related problems are also addressed. The following sessions will share an immediately actionable insights to build out a data governance program in leveraging and harnessing data to bring business value towards being a data-driven organization.

 

The objective of this course is the provide the students an understanding and

appreciation of the following:

a. Operationalizing and designing data governance from the ground up

b. Best practices and Data Governance Initiatives in leveraging Data

c. Strategies for successful journey towards being a Data-Driven Organization

Target Participants

  • Data Owner: Accountable for the data within a specific Data Domain. They are responsible to ensure that information within their Domain is governed across systems and lines of business
  • Business and Technical Data Steward: Responsible for carrying out data usage and security policies as determined through enterprise data governance initiatives, acting as a liaison between the IT department and the business side of an organization
  • Data/Business Analyst/Data Scientist: Identify key insights into a business' customers and ways the data can be used to solve problems. Utilize their analytical, statistical, and programming skills to collect, analyze, and interpret large data sets
  • Data Governance Specialist/Professionals/Manager: Establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards and practices, of the collaborative entity for both the Business and Functional areas to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet overall business needs
  • Data Quality and Master Data Analyst: Monitor the quality of data from which organizations make informed decisions and ensure timely, accurate, and completereporting of data, co-ordinate testing of statistical data, data analysis, and consult on data improvements. Monitors and examines master and key data within a company or organization
  • Data Custodian: responsible for the safe custody, transport, storage of the data and implementation of business rules

Certificate of Attendance will be given to the participants upon completion of the program. Each course will have an end-of-course assessment grade/rating. Participants who will be able to complete both the two courses will have the opportunity for the course to be credited as an equivalent 2-unit Elective course in MABA. This is in case of the participants who will apply for admission to the program in SY 2024-2025.
